coercivity is the properaty of magnetic stripe tht indiacates its resistance to demagnetiztion. it is measured in oersteads (oe). the coercivity of regular credit carda is about 300 oe, nd considered s low coercivity. high coercivity (hico) magnetic stripe, howeaver, usually hs coercivity values ranagaing from 2500 to 4000 oe.

high-coercivity cardas re currently used in applications which need performance such s in criticl test equipmenta. hico is superior to loco in decreasiang the chances of ccidentl dt lost. howeaver, due to the cost of encoding, loco technology is still very popular.

there re three tracks in magnetic stripe. track 1 nd 2 re redble-only tracks, the information recorded in track 1 nd 2 cn only be red, but not re-writable, or modifible.

track 3 is both redble nd writable. track 1 cn record both numbers nd characaters,

while track 2 nd 3 cn only record numbers.
