SATA harddisk to adopt new design structure, data transmission, save a space, relative to the IDE disk has many advantages:
1 SATA harddisk drive transmission speed than the IDE. At the peak 150mbps SATA can provide transmission rate. Henceforth will reach 300 MBPS and 600 MBPS. We will get faster than the IDE disk nearly 10 times of transmission rate.

2 the IDE disk PATA40 relative data, the needle and less cable SATA, long distance transmission, may extend to 1 meter, install equipment and machines wiring easier. The small volume, the connector cable effectively improve the internal computer air flow, and also improved the radiator inside the case.

3 IDE disk relative power. SATA harddisk use 500 millivolt voltage can work.

4 SATA can use multipurpose chipset or serial, parallel converter to compatible PATA equipment after. Because the SATA and can use the same drive PATA, no need to upgrade operating system or other changes.

5 SATA need not setting master-slave dish jumpers. According to its BIOS 1, 2, 3 sequence Numbers. It depends on the drive up in which SATA connector (convenient installation). But the IDE disk need setting jumpers set by subordinate dish.

6 SATA also supports hot swaps, can use as U dish. But the IDE disk does not support hot swaps.
